About the Event

Join us for an evening with Jean-Baptiste Andrea, the author of A Hundred Million Years and a Day, and the book’s award-winning translator Sam Taylor, in conversation with journalist and director of the European Literature Network, Rosie Goldsmith.

‘A sublime and beautiful book’ - Carys Davies, author of West

‘Every line is golden. It has the best parts of poetry and fiction fused together. It’s impossible to describe without selling it short. It is a small, perfect thing, beautiful and devastating’ - Sara Taylor, author of The Lauras

‘Spare, elegant and poetic, this slender novel is quietly devastating’ - Eithne Farry, Daily Mail

Published in English by Gallic Books, A Hundred Million Years and a Day is a gripping, poignant and cinematic tale of friendship, adventure and the fine line between dreams and obsession. It follows Stan, an ageing palaeontologist who hears a rumour of a skeleton in the mountains between France and Italy – a fossil which could prove a huge scientific discovery and finally make his career. With an old friend, an eccentric protégé and an expert guide, he sets off to discover the legend. But as the weather turns, obsession sets in, and the poignant friendship within the group will be pushed to its limits.

The event will be in English, and will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Jean-Baptiste Andrea is an author, a screenwriter and director, whose debut Ma Reine was a huge critical and commercial success, winning 12 literary prizes. A Hundred Million Years and a Day was one of the biggest novels of the ‘rentree litteraire’ and was shortlisted for the Grand Prix de l’Académie Française. It is his first novel to be published in English.

Sam Taylor is a former Observer journalist and the award-winning translator of novels including HHhH, The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair and Lullaby.
