About the Event

Full Disclosure is an honest, affecting, sex-positive, laugh-out-loud-funny young adult novel starring Simone Garcia-Hampton, a black teen born HIV-positive. Raised by loving queer parents who assure her that she is not defined by her diagnosis, Simone navigates a whole new world of fear, disclosure and radical self-acceptance when she falls in love and lust for the first time. Simone's journey to share her secret while still protecting her heart is a thoughtful, compelling heart-warming look at the particular challenges of adolescence.

Come and hear Camryn and Alice discuss their shared experience of getting a book deal at only 17, their thoughts on growing up on social media and the importance of representation and diversity within YA.

The event will be chaired by freelance literary journalist and editor Sarah Shaffi.

Camryn Garrett was born and raised in New York. When she was 13, she was selected as a TIME for Kids reporter, where she interviewed celebrities like Kristen Bell. Her writing has appeared in the Huffington Post, MTV, and Rookie Magazine. In 2015, she was named as one of MTV's 8 Inspiring Teens Using Social Media to Change the World. She is a proud advocate of diverse stories and writers.

Alice Oseman secured her first publishing deal at 17 years old, for her debut novel, Solitaire. Since then, she has gone on to write two further novels Radio Silence and I Was Born For This, two novellas this winter and the Heartstopper series of graphic novels.

Sarah Shaffi is a freelance literary journalist and editor. She writes regularly for Stylist Magazine online and is books editor at Phoenix Magazine. She was a judge for the Jhalak Prize 2019. Sarah is editor-at-large at independent children's publisher Little Tiger Group.
